NEW YORK— A man got into a standoff with NYPD earlier this month after he was caught in Central Park Zoo’s bird enclosure.
The unidentified man entered the zoo’s aviary on June 4 and was spotted lounging with birds, the New York Post reported. NYPD were on scene at around 3:30 p.m.
According to the New York Post, police officers and negotiators spent four hours trying to talk the man down
The man, described as “emotionally disturbed” by the Post, was perched on some rocks 20 ft high and told cops he’d jump.
Fortunately, responding officers managed to talk him down without incident four hours later, the New York Daily news reported, citing an NYPD spokesperson. He was taken into custody without incident.
The man was later taken to a local hospital for a psychological evaluation, the New York Post reported, citing police.
