House Republican Steve Scalise was shot in Alexandria, Virginia, in what appears to be a "deliberate attack," sources told CNN. The shooting occurred during a congressional baseball practice. A congressional aide said Scalise was in stable condition at George Washington University Hospital. Rep. Mo Brooks said there were a number of congressmen and congressional staffers lying on the ground, and at least one of them was wounded. Scalise was shot in the hip and two Capitol Hill police officers were hit as well. Alexandria police said a suspect in the shooting was in custody and "not a threat." The Vice President and I are aware of the shooting incident in Virginia and are monitoring developments closely," President Donald Trump said in a statement. "We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of Congress, their staffs, Capitol Police, first responders, and all others affected."
