A group dressed in “handmaid” uniforms from a TV show based on Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel The Handmaid’s Tale sat in the front row during a committee meeting at the Ohio Statehouse on June 13, in protest against Senate Bill 145.
The bill seeks to outlaw certain abortion procedures.
The group was dressed in the red uniforms of women who are forced to bear children for other people’s families, as described in the speculative-fiction novel.
The protest follows similar Handmaid’s Tale-themed demonstrations in Texas and Missouri.
This video shows a group dressed in the uniforms in the Ohio Statehouse as a committee meeting starts. it also shows interviews with NARAL organizers. Sound has been corrected slightly.
