The Metropolitan Museum of Art is making Islamic art more relevant than ever amid President Trump’s proposed travel ban. Every Friday, the MET hosts 10-minute gallery talks focusing on Middle East culture and history. Antique pieces of art are on display from the 6 countries on the ban list, such as: Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. The collections aim to encourage people to learn more about Islamic culture and the region as anti-Muslim rhetorics mount in the country. President Trump’s revised travel ban was blocked for the second time on June 12 by the U.S. Court of Appeals in San Francisco. The court affirmed a Hawaii judge's ruling that blocked the ban back in March. The travel ban aims to limit people entering the U.S. from 6 Muslim-majority nations. Trump said the ban is necessary to “prevent terrorism in the United States.”
