Officials are investigating what caused a historic New York City synagogue to burn down on Sunday, May 14. Surveillance footage showed three kids running from the unoccupied Beth Hamedrash Hagodol, a report said.

It took firefighters two hours to bring the three-alarm fire under control. The fire department deployed its drone to help, and the images can be seen in this video.

The synagogue was built in 1850 and became a city landmark in 1967. It had closed its doors in 2007 because of dwindling membership, according to a report, and the religious scrolls, Torahs and artifacts were being stored in Brooklyn at the time of the fire.
