Protesters in Caracas, Venezuela, on May 8 donned gas masks and protected themselves with makeshift shields against National Guard forces throwing tear gas canisters.
Nearly 30 people have been killed in the ongoing protests in Venezuela, several of those from fatal injuries associated with being hit by tear gas “bombs.”
Opposition leaders and activists say that the protest suppression tactics used by the National Police and National Guard, at President Nicolas Maduro’s command, are egregiously violent and violate their constitutional right to protest peacefully.
