A refugee on Manus Island posed a question to Australian parliamentarians on May 8 asking whether they would vote to close the offshore detention centres on Manus and Nauru.

Amir, who said he was granted a positive refugee status and has been residing on Manus for almost four years, submitted a video question to Q&A – a panel program featured on ABC on Monday nights. Sitting next to Greens Senator Nick McKim, who visited the island to investigate the Good Friday Shootings, he addressed his question to Liberal Member Dan Tehan and Labor Senator Lisa Singh who were guests on the show that evening.

His question did not make it to air but was posted on McKim’s social media after the program.
