Russians marked the fifth anniversary of the crackdown on protesters at Moscow’s Bolotnaya Square in 2012 with a protest that was barred from reaching the square itself on Saturday, May 6. The rally itself was approved by Russian authorities.

Thousands of Russians protested over the weekend of May 6-7, 2012, as Vladimir Putin prepared for his third presidential inauguration. Dozens of opposition leaders were arrested in the ensuing crackdown.
