Rivers in and around St. Louis were beginning to recede on Thursday, May 4, though not every river had crested yet.

The Meramec River, which is seen in this video, crested at record levels in some communities, according to the National Weather Service. But local officials remained concerned as heavy rain continued to linger, according to a report. Some mandatory evacuations had yet to be lifted.

The receding water was allowing officials to re-open some roads, though stretches remained closed.
