A four-year-old male orangutan named Kotap who had been kept ‘prisoner’ in a small box was rescued by an International Animal Rescue team and officials from the forestry department of West Kalimantan, in Indonesian Borneo, on April 13.
Kotap had been kept for two years in the dark box, with only a plastic bottle and straw to amuse him, International Animal Rescue reported on May 3.
At the age of four, orangutans in the wild are still with their mothers, learning the skills needed for life in the forest.
International Animal Rescue said Kotap would be taken to a rehabilitation center where he would be “given a chance of returning to the forest where he belongs.”
