78 POL vs JPN 53

LONDON, 31 August
Mateusz FILIPSKI (POL) scored 24 points as Poland remained unbeaten in preliminary round group B with a 78-53 victory over Japan at North Greenwich Arena on Friday.
After extinguishing a brief early Japanese lead, the Poles were dominant under the basket, shooting 55 per cent from 2-point range, and they stormed clear to leave the Japanese still in search of their first win in the men's wheelchair basketball competition at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
Player-coach Piotr LUSZYNSKI (POL) was immensely satisfied with his team's performance, and with his own contribution on the court of 21 points and 17 rebounds.
They surged clear with a 12-0 run which began late in the first quarter, punishing Japan's turnovers as the gap grew to 43-20 at half-time.
And although Reo FUJIMOTO (JPN) had 12 of his team-best 18 points in the second half, there was no recovery as Poland held their rivals in check after moving as much as 50-23 clear with 7:32 left in the third quarter through a three-pointer from FILIPSKI.
A 9-0 Japanese streak in the fourth quarter reduced the deficit but it came too late.
