51 AUS vs GBR 24
LONDON, 31 August
Australia maintained their perfect record in group A of the preliminary round of the women's wheelchair basketball with a 51-24 victory over Great Britain at North Greenwich Arena.
Tight defence restricted Britain to 11 points in the first half. With 10 points from Amber MERRITT (AUS), the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games bronze medallists, were far too strong for their opponents.
After a tight opening spell, Australia, who beat Brazil on Thursday, moved ahead and then held Britain scoreless for more than 11 minutes. They led 25-11 at half-time and then hit 10 unanswered points at the start of the third period.
Britain, who added only three points in the quarter, found some consolation in the fourth, but a team-high eight points from Judith HAMER (GBR) underlined their struggles in executing their offensive plan.
Britain has lost both its opening matches.
