The Supreme Court on Monday stayed criminal proceedings against cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni who has been accused of deliberately outraging religious sentiments with a visual depiction of him as Lord Vishnu in a magazine. The issue has been going on since April 2013, when the edition of the Business Today magazine posted the photo of Dhoni as Lord Vishnu which landed him in hot water with a complaint seeking registration of an FIR for allegedly insulting Hindu religion and its gods and goddesses.
