USS Carl Vinson held joint drills with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force in the Sea of Japan on Friday, April 28, nearly three weeks after the US announced its arrival in the region, ABC reported.
The US aircraft carrier entered the region on Saturday, following North Korea’s failed missile launch earlier in the day. It plans to join South Korean warships in an exercise, according to South Korean defense officials, Yonhap News Agency reported. That would be the Vinson’s second operation in the waters next to South Korea in less than two months.
US President Donald Trump said North Korea’s missile test “disrespected the wishes of China & its highly respected President.”
