Lyrid meteor shower creates dazzling scenery in sky in China

The annual Lyrid meteor shower has lit up the night sky over Changbai Mountain in northeast China’s Jilin Province.
Dozens of meteors per hour were visible. The Lyrid occurs every year in late April, usually between the 19th and 23rd, when the Earth passes through the dusty tail of Comet Thatcher.
Meteor showers are created when dust and other particles break off from an astronomical body and enter Earth’s atmosphere on a parallel course.
