MCD elections, which had so far remained a clash between the BJP and the Congress, assume greater significance this time with the entry of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Swaraj India into the fray. The saffron party, which has been ruling MCD for over 14 years now, grabbed 144 seats in the previous election. Three bodies of MCD spend 16 percent of their annual budget or Rs. 1,500 Crore every year to keep capital city clean. Per capita waste generated in Delhi rises by 1.3 percent per annum. Dust from construction sites ranks among the majour pollutants that pollute national capital's air. North MCD governs five hospitals, East MCD has one hospital under it while South has none. Outbreak of diseases/ailments such as Chikungunya and dengue create trouble for the administration every season. Mosquito breeding continues to remain a headache for municipality which required appropriate/sufficient fogging. Though MCD has always claimed of improving facilities in their school premises, a MCD school still remains at the bottom of choices for our children.
