Will Smith is reportedly in talks to star in an upcoming live-action remake of Disney’s “Aladdin”!
According to Deadline, the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Aire" star is in early talks to reprise the “Genie” role made famous by Robin Williams in the animated film back in 1992 and we can’t think of anyone better.
The original Disney animated film brought in $504 million and launched a new merchandising line, which when translated into 2017 numbers must have studio execs tongues wagging.
Disney’s latest live-action remake “Beauty and the Beast” has already pulled in $1 billion worldwide so we can see why Disney would be interested in bringing back this story for a new audience.
The film will be a live-action musical and would work well with Smith who was known as The Fresh Prince rapper before he hit it big as an actor. The production is getting ready for a 6 month shoot, starting in the U.K. in July and wrapping early 2018.
And while it’s still early, we think Will makes almost too much sense for this role.
