Twenty-five years ago, plus a few weeks, Morocco's Said AOUITA (MAR) became the first man to run under 13 minutes for 5000m. On Monday, El Aman CHENTOUF (MAR) took a cue from his illustrious compatriot by becoming the first Paralympic visually impaired runner to go under 14 minutes for the distance when he set a T12 men's world record of 13 minutes 53.56 seconds in the Olympic Stadium.

Medalists:
GOLD CHENTOUF El Amin MAR - Morocco
SILVER ZHIOU Abderrahim TUN - Tunisia
BRONZE KIRWA Henry KEN - Kenya

El Amin CHENTOUF (MAR) comments:

On leading the race from the front:
""I was surprised to get so far ahead but I have been training hard twice a day in Morocco and the attitude there is different.""

On setting a world record:
""I set a personal best time today and I was expecting to go below 14 minutes because of my intense training.""
