CLEVELAND — Cold-blooded killer Steve Stephens is still on the lam in what has now become a nationwide manhunt to apprehend him. Stephens, 37, uploaded a self-recorded video to Facebook of him supposedly ending the life of Robert Godwin Sr., 74, an innocent man picked at random.
On April 16, the father of ten and grandfather of 14 had just finished spending the holiday with his family. Meanwhile, Steve Stephens, upset at his ex-girlfriend, was preparing himself for a terrible rampage in her name when he saw Godwin walking down the street. Stephens approached the old man and asked him to say the woman’s name, informing Godwin that what was about to happen to him was because of her. Stephens shot the senior citizen and got back into his car.
After uploading the clip to Facebook, several who saw it called police. Cleveland’s mayor has announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to his arrest, but authorities think he may have left the state by now, and could be hiding in New York, Pennsylvania, Indiana or Michigan. In Facebook posts, Stephens wrote his killing spree had already taken the lives of 12 people and 15 people, the figure changing in separate posts. Police can only confirm the one homicide, but believe Stephens is unstable and could strike again.
His former girlfriend of three years, Joy Lane, is cooperating with authorities to help track him down. Stephens’ mother has revealed her son stopped by to see her the day before the killing, and said to her “If you see me again, it’ll be a miracle.”
