Best Musical went to Passing Strange, while Best Play went to August: Osage County. August: Osage County, Passing Strange, and Gypsy each garnered three awards. The Drama Desk also presented a special, lifetime achievement awards to Edward Albee and James Earl Jones.
Jesse Tyler Ferguson, last seen on Broadway in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, will make the transition to the small screen to star in the new Fox comedy Do Not Disturb. The show is about a wacky local inn and co-stars Radio Golf's Harry Lennox.
The Drama Desk Awards aren't the only Broadway awards show this week, as tomorrow, May 22, The Outer Circle Critics Awards will be handed out at the famous Sardi's. The winners were announced May 12 and included Young Frankenstein and Xanadu in a tie for Best Musical. August: Osage County took home Outstanding New Broadway Play and South Pacific took home four awards, including Outstanding Revival of a Musical. Young Frankenstein and Xanadu weren't the only co-winners, as Adding Machine and Next to Normal were each awarded the Outstanding New Score award.
