Cyclone Cook was lashed New Zealand the afternoon of Thursday, April 13, as it was scheduled to make landfall in the evening.

Weather warnings in Auckland were lifted as it seemed the country’s largest city would be mostly spared, although the fire service did receive 32 flood calls.

But the storm was still bearing down on the Bay of Plenty, and was expected to make landfall at about 7 or 8 pm, Stuff.co.nz reported.

This vision shows high wind and rain hitting Papamoa Beach in the Bay of Plenty on Thursday afternoon.
