Thousands of demonstrators marched through the streets of Pretoria on Wednesday, April 12, before gathering outside government Union Buildings for a mass rally, part of a national day of action called by parties opposed to President Jacob Zuma.

The protest marked Zuma’s 75th birthday, the latest in a series of protests sparked by government scandals and a cabinet reshuffle that impacted the country’s economy.

According to eNCA reports, police expected about 10,000 people to gather at government buildings, but local reports on social media claimed much higher attendance numbers.

This video shows the scale of the protests.
