On Thursday evening, Hillary Clinton appeared at the Women in the World Summit and, during an interview, suggested that the U.S. bomb airfields in Syria.
Hours later, President Trump ordered such a strike, sending 59 cruise missiles to western Syria’s Shayrat airfield, reports Time.
For some, the relationship between the two events stretches the boundaries of coincidence, notes Mediaite.
Both Clinton’s statement and Trump’s action came in response to the dropping of a fatal substance, believed to contain Sarin, on a Syrian village, according to The Independent.
About 80 people, including children, were killed in the reported chemical weapons attack. According to U.S. intelligence, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was behind the attack.
At Thursday’s summit, Clinton said, in part, “Assad has an air force, and that air force is the cause of most of these civilian deaths...I really believe that we should have and still should take out his airfields and prevent him from being able to use them to bomb innocent people and drop sarin gas on them.”
After the strike, Trump stated, “...I ordered a targeted military strike on the airfield in Syria from where the chemical attack was launched. It is in this vital national security interest of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons.”
