Violence against referees is a sadly common thing in football these days; indeed it’s been rife since the dawn of the sport.

You would think such extreme violence against officials would have declined and been all but eradicated by now, but sadly it still remains very common, particularly in amateur football.

And this incident was particularly brutal, as the referee got kneed in the face by a player.

Now while we all get annoyed with officials from time to time, to out and out go and abuse one physically is bang out of order, and it’s pretty safe to say that anyone with even half a brain would agree.

Player banned for life
Thankfully, the player has been punished accordingly, and has been banned from playing for life.


The most interesting thing about the story is that this was a game between Porto’s Ultras, named Canelas.

Perhaps Ultras shouldn’t be allowed play football…
