The Navy’s new weapon uses electricity to fire at targets over 115 miles away. The Electromagnetic Railgun can launch projectiles at more than 4,500 mph, as seen in recently released test footage. Because the railgun uses kinetic and laser energies, it eliminates the risks associated with high explosives. The Navy calls the railgun “a true warfighter game changer.”
