President Trump blasted Germany for owing "vast sums of money" to NATO and the United States for providing defense. Trump's tweets came only a day after his first meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Only five of NATO's 28-member countries meet the alliance defense spending goal, including the U.S., U.K., Greece, Poland, and Estonia. Germany currently spends 1.23 percent of its GDP on defense, but the number is to be increased.
