Golf is one of the most technical sports out there, and most people have to practice for ages to improve their game. However, some Russian golfers swear that playing on the ice is a good way to fast-track your performance on the green, especially your putting game. Welcome to the 2017 Baikal Ice Golf Tournament, which draws together the world's most audacious golfers to try their luck on the frozen surface of the world's largest freshwater lake.

Golfers from Russia, South Korea, China and Belgium took part in this year's event, which kicked off last saturday. First organised in 2004, the Baikal Ice Golf Tournament has taken place every year for the past 13 years. More than 1,000 people from all over the world have participated in the tournament since it first began.

The Russians aren't the only ones getting in one the ice golf action. In fact, the World Ice Golf Championship has been held every year since 1997. Baikal is preparing to host the competition in 2020. Oh, and if you're thinking about getting on the ice and giving it a try, here's a word of advice: don't bring graphite clubs, they can shatter in the cold.
