NEO TV popular weelky program ' Muhasira' on Special Security Unit (SSU) along with the interview of Mr. Maqsood Ahmed, Commandant SSU telecasted on 04.03.2017
While giving interview to correspondent Neo News, Zunaib Khanzada, Commandant SSU, Mr. Maqsood Ahmed said that he adopted the idea of establishing SSU in Pakistan, when he was in London for counter terrorism training, where he experienced the respect given to a police constable and fear of law in the society .
He thought that why not in Pakistan this kind of force could be established so he presented recommendation to establish a professional, well trained, well equipped with modern weaponry, capable of giving foolproof security to President, Prime Minister & vital installations, with highly paid salaries & with full logistic supported force which Ex-president Mr. Asif Ali Zardari approved in last government & SSU came into being.
Furthermore, he said that SSU is the first ISO certified unit, SSU commandoes have to undergo 01 year basic training, then they are sent for advance courses, beside this they are also getting advance anti-terrorist training from Kharian with collaboration with armed forces & they have to undergo some refresh courses gradually like helli borne etc, he added while praising the cooperation of Ex-Army Chief, Mr. Raheel Shareef in this regard.
Moreover, he while commenting on an old police station culture he told that police is still running on 70 year old colonial law which based on classes like in Hindu cast system Barhaman, Shudar etc.
SSU doesn’t believe on any such system, it is a rankles department, everyone can share their problems with high command, if an employee can’t get respect from his own department how can he be respected on public level? He questioned.
He said 28 SSU commandos have sacrifice their lives in the line of duty he further added that it is a hallmark of SSU that it has established a Special Weapon & Tactics Team (S.W.A.T) which is ready 24/7 to respond any untoward incident, it took part in an operation when Karachi airport came under attack.
In addition SSU is also taking part in anti-terrorist operation, polio vaccination campaigns in sensitive areas, so it is a wrong impression that SSU is just providing protection to only important personalities, he concluded.
