Malta’s world-famous Azure Window, a rock arch on the island of Gozo, endured heavy storms on March 7 before it collapsed a day later. Tieqa tad-Dwejra, as it is known in Malta, fell into the sea on March 8, according to local reports.
The Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said that the landmark was destroyed by unavoidable natural erosion. The opposition leader in Malta, Simon Busuttil, described the collapse of the arch as “a sad day for Malta”. Credit: Gilbert Vancell via Storyful
