Satao II, one of the last tusker elephants, was found dead by the Kenyan Wildlife Service in Tsavo East National Park. Its believed that poachers killed Satao II with a poisoned arrow. Tusker elephants are critically endangered because poachers hunt them for their 45 kg tusks, which contain large amounts of ivory. There are approximately 21 tusker elephants left in the eastern, central and southern regions of Africa. The KWS agents and rangers arrested two poachers that had an AK47, 12 poisoned arrow, and three bows shortly after Satao II's death.
