Indian boxing star Vijender Singh will not fight as scheduled opponent for his next fight, China's Zulpikar Maimaitiali, got out of the April 1 contest without specifying any reasons. However, the bout will take place in Mumbai as scheduled as IOS Boxing Promotions are in talks with other champions in Vijender’s weight category, and the opponent will be announced soon. The Vijender-Zulpikar super middleweight contest was to be a double Asian title fight.The Indian's WBO Asia-Pacific belt and the Chinese boxer's WBO Oriental title were to be on the line in a winner-takes-all bout. Vijender's promoters IOS Boxing Promotions said Zulpikar has refused to specify his reasons for pulling out, merely telling them he would prefer to fight Vijender later in the year. However, Vijender will be in action on April 1 nonetheless as his promoters are now talking to other international boxing champions in the same weight category.Vijender, who is training in Manchester under Lee Beard, had overwhelmed Tanzania’s Francis Cheka in his title defence in December. He is undefeated in the circuit and the April 1 bout will be his third pro fight in the country, the earlier two being held in Delhi.
