Assam Government move to make Sanskrit compulsory till Class VIII has drawn sharp criticism from student organizations and opposition political parties.Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal informed that Sanskrit as a subject will be made mandatory for student’s up to VII standard. Sanskrit should be learned by the young generation as Sanskrit has led to the evolution of other languages in the country, he added. However, All Assam Student Union has criticized the Government’s move to make Sanskrit as compulsory; it can be an optional subject rather as it will increase the burden for the students of Government .
