On Tuesday, President Trump addressed a joint session of Congress, and a number of female Democratic lawmakers embraced the opportunity to show support for women and their rights, reports NBC News.
Many in attendance were dressed in white, the color associated with the American suffragette movement.
The call for action came from the House Democratic Women’s Working Group, notes CNN.
Member Lois Frankel, a Representative from Florida, said, “We wear white to unite against any attempts by the Trump Administration to roll back the incredible progress women have made in the last century, and we will continue to support the advancement of all women. We will not go back.”
Prior to the address, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi tweeted a group photo of the nearly 50 lawmakers who heeded the call.
She wrote, “Tonight, our Democratic #WomenWearWhite in support of women's rights -- in spite of a @POTUS who doesn't!”
