Former Labor Secretary Tom Perez was elected the first Latino chairman of the of the Democratic National Committee on Saturday. Perez defeated Rep. Keith Ellison in a 235-200 vote among the 435 DNC members who cast a ballot. Democrats voted twice before selecting a winner, with Perez one vote away from winning the first ballot. During Perez's victory speech, he pledged his commitment to ensure that President Trump would not lead the country for a second term. “They're going to study this era in American history, and they're going to ask the question of all of us: 'Where were you in 2017, when we had the worst president in the history of the United States?' " Perez said in his speech.
