Astronomers have found 60 new planets orbiting stars close to Earth’s solar system, including a rocky “super Earth.” The experts also found evidence of an additional 54 planets, bringing the potential discovery of new worlds to 114. The Super Earth, also known as Lalande 21185, has a short orbital period of under 10 days, so it is not exactly like Earth, said the Carnegie Institute of Science, which took part in the study. The results are based on almost 61,000 individual observations of 1,600 stars taken over a 20-year period by US astronomers using the Keck-I telescope in Hawaii.
