'Morning Joe' host Mika Brzezinski has revealed her efforts to try and adopt a family from Syria.
She made the disclosure on the MSNBC show Monday after reading a statement from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, or UNHCR.
The statement, which criticizes President Trump’s recent immigration order, says, in part, “The United States is a global leader in supporting those forced to flee their homes, but now our commitment to refugees is in jeopardy.”
It goes on to say, “The rest of the world is watching as this executive order places us on the wrong side of history, as the United States stands down from its commitment to freedom and hope…”
After she read the excerpt, Brzezinski added, “I should note that I am on the board of UNHCR, and I’m also in the process of trying to adopt a Syrian family, as we put it all on the table here.”
President Trump has continued to stand by his controversial executive order temporarily banning refugees and immigrants from predominantly Muslim countries.
The order resulted in protests at airports around the country.
On Monday, Trump took to Twitter in an attempt to diffuse the chaos that had ensued.
He wrote, “Only 109 people out of 325,000 were detained and held for questioning. Big problems at airports were caused by Delta computer outage, protesters...Secretary Kelly said that all is going well with very few problems. MAKE AMERICA SAFE AGAIN!”
