This is one of the three ways to win a Space Assault match in BF2, by using a bomber to take out your enemy's capital ship shields, then subsystems (the other two ways are by either dogfighting to 180 kills - which I enjoy the most, or to infiltrate the enemy's capital ship with troopers, and sabotage their systems within, which sounds fun, but I find that method to be quite tedious). The bomber method is probably the most straightforward, easiest and quickest.

Bombers aren't great for dogfighting, but they're pretty good for eliminating transport ships filled with enemies (and points) that are bound for your own capital ship, as well as for destroying frigates. On the other hand, TIEs and Interceptors don't last long near capital ships, so they're better for defending your own ship from enemy bombers, and for picking off other ships.
