A new study revealed that only 7,100 cheetahs remain in the wild heading towards the brink of extinction, according to the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Over the last century, numbers have dropped from 100,000 cheetahs in the wild. The species is now extremely vulnerable to extinction due to the decline and loss of its natural habitat. According to the study, cheetahs have lost nearly 90 percent of their habitat as a result of human populations.
