As Kenyans celebrated the new year thousands of kilometers away in Turkey the country was in mourning after ,at least 39 people were killed and 70 others wounded in an attack in a night club as the revelers were celebrating the new year.
According to the Turkish interior ministry, a gun man dressed as Santa Claus dashed into the Reina night club in the busy Besiktas neighborhood mostly frequented by foreign nationals and opened fire indiscriminately killing at least 16 foreign nationals.
The incident has since been described as the first terrorist attack of 2017.
Meanwhile, several major cities including , New York and London ushered in the new year in style with fireworks and other spectacles.
