Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was conferred the distinction of 'Knight of the Legion of Honour' during a special ceremony held at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai, on Tuesday. The highest French distinction was presented to him by H.E. Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development of France. H.E. Mr. Laurent Fabius declared, ''The French people hail Shah Rukh Khan's talent and generosity, which arouse the enthusiasm of a vast audience across the world, transcending cultural and historical differences and bringing together people from all walks of life to his films." After receiving the award, Khan said, ''I'm extremely grateful and humbled by this distinction that has been conferred upon me. It woul'd be wrong for me to accept it as an individual, so I accept it on behalf of all the filmmakers, who have worked so tirelessly over the past hundred years of Indian cinema.'' The French public remembers SRK's participation at the Cannes Film Festival, notably in 2002 when he presented his film Devdas.
