Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party proposed a constitutional reform that could extend President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's rule until 2029. The bill proposed intends to transform Ankara’s political framework from a parliamentary system to a presidential one. Erdogan is Turkey’s first president who was elected by popular vote in 2014. He previously served three terms as the nation’s prime minister. “God willing, this will be the start of a new era,” Erdogan reportedly said at an Istanbul rally of the announcement.
