Indian, which progressively introduced this year technical elements of its developing race-only Scout FTR750 dirt-track V-twin racebike, put it on the track at Santa Rosa in the hands of 2000 Grand National Champion Joe Kopp. The bike was very fast even though its 47-year-old rider was not necessarily expected to mix it up at the front. Kopp qualified by finishing second in his Heat (wheelying off of Turn 2 on the opening lap!), won the Dash for Cash, and finished seventh in the main after getting the holeshot and leading the first lap.
