A near-parallel departure of two vintage steam engines from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station occurred on October 30.
This footage, shot by Brenden Schonfelder, shows the dual departure of both trains as they make their way down the tracks.
“[This was] the first time since 2000 there has been a steam locomotive parallel side by side run in Victoria,” Schonfelder told Storyful. “With increasing services taking up more service paths, this event is unlikely to happen again in the near future.”
The trains were part of Steamrail Victoria Inc.’s 50 Years of the Vintage Train tour, where fully restored locomotives up to 127 years old will travel from Melbourne to Geelong and back. Credit: Brenden Schonfelder
