The Smithsonian National Museum of American History has launched a kickstarter campaign of $300,000 to repair and conserve Dorothy's ruby slippers from "The Wizard of Oz." According to the Kickstarter campaign, movie props are made cheaply and are only expected to last for the duration of the shoot. "They need immediate conservation care and a new, state-of-the-art display case, in order to slow their deterioration and protect them from environmental harm" The slipper will be put on display in a new exhibition tentatively titled On With the Show in 2018.
