Communications recently released through the Freedom of Information Act show that officials at the White House and the State Department had coordinated their efforts in managing the controversy over Hillary Clinton’s handling of emails.

The issue of Hillary Clinton’s questionable handling of emails continues to follow her campaign. 
According to the Wall Street Journal, the Republican National Committee used the Freedom of Information Act to gain access to early 2015 communications which indicate that the White House and the State Department were working together to manage the consequences of her private server use. 
In one string of emails, members from both offices reportedly strategized a way for Secretary of State John Kerry to appear on CBS’s 'Face the Nation' without having to discuss her emails.
Jen Psaki, the State Department spokesperson at the time, responded to a White House counterpart’s suggestion about this approach by writing, “Agree completely and working to crush on my end.” 
The Journal report also states that “in another instance, a top State Department official assured an attorney for Mrs. Clinton that, contrary to media reports, a department official hadn’t told Congress that Mrs. Clinton erred in using a private email account.” 
The Democratic nominee has since apologized and maintains that she did not knowingly act against government policy.
