5 year old Taylor is NOT a natural breaststroke kicker.
1: SLIP KICK : Slip your palm off the swimmer's heels as she presses back.
2: ACCORDION KICK: Isolate and Repeat the Bend & Push action with a Forced Flexed Foot.
Proper WHIP KICKING (knees narrower than the feet) can be taught later.
FROG KICK is easier to teach swimmers who are challenged to turn their feet out & who do not understand the concept of pushing the water back with the bottom of their feet.
The PUSH & the SQUEEZE should be one action. The PUSH causes propulsion - not the SQUEEZE.
The SQUEEZE allows for a streamlined glide.
As the legs extend from at the end of the PUSH, grab the legs & make them squeeze straight. Do this after every PUSH
Notice the way Ginny is pressing back on her toes to accentuate the TURN-OUT.
Press the feet to the farthest extent possible (as she resists the pressure). SLING SHOT EFFECT: Releasing at the maximum point provides power for her to project her feet backward.
Releasing your HOLD at the start of the PUSH allows the student to FEEL the water moving from the part of the foot that causes her body to propel through the water.
* To reward the swimmer for holding the streamline, the teacher can enhance the glide by "giving her a shove" during the “SQUEEZE”.
