The Balule Nature Reserve’s Black Mamba Anti-Poaching (http://www.blackmambas.org/) Unit is the first of its kind: The majority of the team members are women. The main objective of the Black Mamba APU, founded in 2013 by Transfrontier Africa, is the protection of wildlife, but the team also to educates the youth of the communities that live on the boundaries of the Balule region. Currently, there are 26 Black Mambas that operate within Balule Nature Reserve and its surrounding areas, along with 23 armed guards. Poaching and snaring has decreased significantly since their deployment in this area. However, they believe that the war on poaching will not be won with guns and bullets, but through the local communities and education. This short documentary by Black Bean Productions was made possible in part by Empowers Africa and Rhinos in Africa, which you can follow on Facebook.
