The Skittles photo used in Donald Trump Jr.’s tweet about refugees was taken by a British photographer who was once a refugee himself.
On Monday, Donald Trump Jr. tweeted a photo featuring a bowl of Skittles and the message, “If I had a bowl of skittles and I told you just three would kill you, would you take a handful? That's our Syrian refugee problem."
It turns out that not only was the photo allegedly used without the permission of the photographer, that individual happens to be a refugee himself.
David Kittos, the man who snapped the picture, fled Cyprus in 1974. He has since become a British citizen.
In speaking with the BBC, Kittos pointed out that the photo was taken, “…six years ago…and it was never done with the intention of spreading a political message…I don't support Trump's politics and I would never take his money to use it."
Notably, Wrigley, which makes Skittles, is not thrilled with the tweet, either.
