Fencing was initially practiced as part of military training before it appeared as an independent sport in the 1800s. As a sport, Fencing made its Olympic debut at the first modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896. Fencing is one of the few sports to have featured at every modern Olympic Games.
The finest fencers in Europe will feint and flick their way to victory in the glorious Crystal Hall from 23 June to 27 June 2015 in Baku. Over the five days of competition, 216 fencers will take part in men’s and women’s individual and team bouts in epée, foil and sabre events. There will be a total of 12 medal events.
