http://digthatbox.com/ - Sega introduces their new portable game system in the very first US TV spot for the Sega Game Gear. As with many Sega ads at the time, Sega takes a shot at the competition while touting the backlit color screen of the new Game Gear.

The Sega Game gear was released in North America on April 26th, 1991. It retailed for $150 USD. It remained on the market until 1997 and sold roughly 11 million units over its lifespan. The system had many unique and notable games such as the Game Gear Shinobi Series. In the year 2000 Majesco re-released the Game Gear as a budget handheld under the Sega branding. The system was also capable of playing Sega Master System games using a special adapter called the Master Gear Convertor.
